Things change. Businesses must align with this change. A process effective decades ago may be too inefficient for todays technology and pace and may in fact get in the way of resolving problems at their lowest level. The result is over work for middle managers having to make decisions that have sat in their computer while contractors and staff await a decision.

One of my mentors Dr Tom stated that leadership means change and...

First you must be willing to hire a consultant strong in what you are weak in with enough character to represent your interests. This is a challenge on small projects where there is temptation save money due to a small budget.

There is a saying that goes as follows; a smart person learns from their experience but a genius learns from others. Hiring a consultant who has experience in what you are about to do is a great way to...

It is no surprise our nations infrastructure as a whole received a failing grade on a recent national inventory report card. The Interstate was first authorized and heavily funded starting in 1956. Many of the original alignments built in the following years through the late 1960's still remain as narrow two highways lanes each way while urban portions have been expanded 2 and in some place 3 times since inception.

In 19...

I just visited a project of mine today as the bridge deck was being poured. You can see in this image the automated concrete finishing machine, the concrete pump truck, the two mats of reinforcing steel used for support over the concrete beams and steel deck pans.

This summer I took a break from Indianapolis to visit St Louis. I had been to the city a few times passing through but this time I made it into the arch the city is now famous for. I had to go inside the arch and learn more about its construction. The arch is constructed of reinforced concrete with stainless steel exterior and was completed in 1965. It stands 630 feet tall. Architect Eero Saarinen and structural engineer Fred...

I just visited a project of mine today and as you can see we encountered a large piece of concrete and rebar debris a few feet down from the surface that prevented the soundwall post from reaching its proper depth. As a result we had to overexcavate the hole with an excavator and backfill the area before resuming the excavation of soundwall post. Encountering utilities or buried debris is not uncommon. Had this been rock or de...

Below was a first for me. I am the third from the right next to Indians mascot Rowdy. I was invited to go out on the field of the Indianapolis Indians for the first pitch ceremony. The celebration was for our recent opening a bridge closed to traffic under an accelerated schedule to minimize user delay costs, save money for maintenace of traffic, and increase worker safety.

If you have a construciton project that h...

As a licensed private pilot I understand the need to store your private aircraft where it is protected from harmful weather and temperature extremes.

This spring I visited florida and after taking in a spring training baseball game I toured NASA and saw some of the largest hangars in the world.

If you would like to discuss building your hangar please give me a call.

After one week of design submittals I have decided on this layout for my new business card. The process was exciting and I am pleased with the results. Let me know if you like the design.

If you are uncomfortable hiring a professional take comfort knowning a professional can make all the difference and ensure your project reaches its touch down to your satifaction. For example I have pasted my recount of learning to fly an airplane which took expert training and trust. After all my life depended on it. Emila Earhart said flying and aircraft and particularly landing an aircraft is like most things in life. It is...
